With the increasing popularity of assembly of LPG installations in cars, myths about its operation and safety have appeared over the years. Many of them are so deeply rooted in human consciousness that they uncritically regard them as truth. In today's post we will try to deal with the most popular ones, which hit the people who plan to install a gas system in their car the most.
The gas reduces the car's performance
FALSEHOOD! In the case of new installations that have been professionally installed and adjusted, there are no noticeable declines in car performance. With a well-chosen installation for the type of engine in the car, the power drop in extreme cases is around 3%. This is of course a value that does not affect everyday driving on the roads.
This myth belongs to one of the most popular, which means that many people are more careful about installing LPG installations. However, as all studies show, natural gas is the cheapest alternative for people who cover even small distances on a daily basis. You can read more about the savings from setting up the installation in our recent article, HERE.
The LPG bottle occupies the entire luggage space
We often hear that the installation should not be put on cars that are intended for large families. However, properly selected cylinder for our car will not cause any damage to the luggage space. Toroidal cylinders are most often in the place of the spare wheel, and therefore do not reduce the luggage space. Such tanks are, however, characterized by a reduced surface area, which means that the range of the car is somewhat limited. We only need a place for a spare wheel, which easily fits in the garage or the space between the rear seat and the front seats.
An ugly smell at the gas installation
Most often this problem appeared in old installations where leaks may have occurred. With modern installations, consisting of components from reputable manufacturers, this problem does not occur. If we use a good workshop specializing in gas installations and the specialist himself will do his job reliably, there is no way to feel the smell of gas in the car. It is worth looking for the right workshop and not be guided by the price criterion, because there is nothing to save on safety.
Gas installations are dangerous?
In the case of new installations, both tanks and other accessories are tested in terms of resistance to mechanical damage, as well as the impact of external factors. The materials used for their production as well as technologies used in production ensure safety at the same level as in the case of cars driving on petrol or diesel. A number of studies on the safety of installation users over the last decade indicate that there is a lack of dependence between the gas installation and worse consequences in a car accident.
Are all engines suitable for gassing
In the case of modern installations, there are no contraindications regarding the installation of a gas system for each type of engine. The initial versions of gas installations had a problem with engines with direct fuel injection, but with the growing popularity of propane-butane installations, systems were created that were adapted to this type of engines. Thanks to the use of colloquially called injections we do not have to worry about the state of our fuel injections.
LPG installation in each workshop is assumed the same
This is a mistaken statement, of course, where workshops are held that do not have specialists in gas installations. It is not worth saving on parts used during installation, as well as on the mechanic's rate. We can observe real savings during cyclic refueling, when more money is left in our portfolio. Good quality parts will serve us much longer without the need to replace them, and in addition will not have a major impact on our engine.
A small summary
These are just a few of the most popular myths regarding gas installations, but we consider them to be the most popular by drivers. If we do not know how the installation will perform with our engine and what its estimated cost will be, it is worth to seek advice in the plants involved in their assembly. Let us choose only proven and recommended workshops, and we will be sure that the installation will serve us for many years.
